<br /> <br />City of Elk River <br />Fire Academy Instructor <br />Position Description <br /> <br />Department: Immediate Supervisor: <br />Fire Deputy Chief of Training and Logistics <br />Pay Grade: FLSA Status: Last Updated: (date) <br />Per City Compensation Plan Non-Exempt 08/2023 <br />Assistant Instructor $30.00/hr <br />Lead Instructor $40.00/hr <br />Positions Supervised: <br />N/A <br />Position Summary <br />This position is a part time position with a varied work schedule and hours depending on training <br />schedule, responsible for delivering training courses in fire and rescue services for fire cadets. The <br />fire academy typically runs from November to April. Additional opportunities to assist with <br />regular department training may be available throughout the year. Training and course instruction <br />will occur in a classroom setting and or an outside training environment. Under the direction of <br />the Deputy Chief of Training and Logistics, this position is responsible for providing professional <br />quality training, conducting and teaching courses within the prescribed curriculum for study in <br />compliance with MN Firefighter I and II certification requirements. <br /> <br /> <br />Essential Functions: <br />A. Leads or assists with delivering training courses for fire and rescue that meet NFPA <br />1001 firefighter I and II requirements. <br />B. Conducts and assists with fire suppression skills and evolutions. <br />C. Ensures that course materials and instruction format match the skill level of fire <br />cadets. <br />D. Conducts and instructs certification training for fire academy cadets. <br />E. Assists in preparing the classroom and the skill training areas. <br />F. Performs other duties as directed. <br />G. Ensures safe and effective use of training center facilities during course delivery and <br />all other related duties while promoting ERFD core values. <br /> <br />Other Essential Job Duties: <br />A. Regular and timely work attendance. <br />B. Follows all safety procedures. Maintains due regard for the safety and welfare of <br />department personnel and the public. <br /> <br />Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities <br /> Considerable knowledge of firefighting techniques and procedures. <br /> Knowledge of required credentials and certifications for firefighting. <br /> <br />
