The fire <br />academy typically runs from November to April. Additional opportunities to assist with regular <br />department training may be available throughout the year. Training and course instruction will <br />occur in a classroom setting and or an outside training environment. Under the direction of the <br />Deputy Chief of Training, this position is responsible for providing professional quality training, <br />conducting and teaching courses within the prescribed currieulum for study in compliance with <br />MN Firefighter I and II certification requirements. <br />Essential Functions <br />1. Instructor <br />A. <br />B <br />C <br />D <br />E. <br />F. <br />G <br />To lead or assist with delivering training courses for fire and rescue that meet NFPA <br />1001 firefighter I and II requirements. <br />Conduct and assist with fire suppression skills and evolutions <br />Ensure that course materials and instruction format match the skill level of fire <br />cadets <br />Conduct and instruct eertification trainings for fire academy cadets <br />Assist in preparing the classroom and the skill training areas <br />Performs other duties as direeted. <br />Ensures safe and effective use of training center facilities during course delivery and <br />all other related duties while promoting ERFD core values <br />2. Maintains due regard for the safety and welfare of <br />department personnel and the public. <br />Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities <br />❑ Considerable knowledge of firefighting techniques and procedures. <br />❑ Kriowledge of required credentials and certifications for firefighting <br />❑ Skill and ability to apply firefighting techniques and procedures. <br />❑ Skill in operating and directing various firefighting apparatus and equipment. <br />❑ Ability to communicate well through written and verbal means. <br />❑ Ability to speak in front of a crowd and to make a presentation. <br />Page 1 <br />
