<br />Park & Recreation Commission Meeting <br />August l8, 1993 <br /> <br />Page 2 <br /> <br />or a trade show, but his committee plans to contact the Sherburne <br />County Fair Board to make use of some of their unused parking. <br /> <br />. <br /> <br />Commissioner Dana Anderson questioned if the group had looked at the <br />impact this proposal would have on the traffic, parking, and green <br />space on this area of town, and if it worked well in this setting. <br /> <br />Chair Dave Anderson questioned why the Civic Center Committee has set <br />such a fast track timeline. Jeff Gongoll stated that this is an <br />ambitious timeline and the Committee may need to consider a later <br />referendum date. <br /> <br />Commissioner Daleiden questioned if this was a hockey arena disguised <br />as a civic center disguised as a community center. She also stated <br />that she would prefer a development for residents and not for trade <br />shows. <br /> <br />Councilmember Farber stated that the hockey rink was 1/3 of the project <br />and would be used six months of the year so the hockey rink is 18 to 20 <br />percent of the project. <br /> <br />Chair Dave Anderson stated he would prefer to keep Orono Park as much <br />intact as possible and this proposal would take park land for parking. <br />The City Hall site is too small for development of a 100,000 square <br />foot project with no allowance for future expansion. He also <br />questioned if a park improvement referendum and the civic center <br />referendum should be taken to the voters as a package, and if another <br />site would be considered. <br /> <br />. <br /> <br />Commissioner Lipetzky left at this time (8:05 p.m.). <br /> <br />Jeff Gongoll said that there is much work to be done. Update on Sherburne County Park Committee - Dave Anderson <br /> <br />Chair Dave Anderson stated that the Sherburne County Park Committee now <br />consists of six members. The main project will be connecting a trail <br />system. The Committee has no property or funds at this time, but Chair <br />Anderson said he is optimistic about the future of the County Park <br />Committee. <br /> <br />. <br />
