Minnesota Utility Contractors Association
4248 Park Glen Road I Mlinneapolllis, MN 55416
P: 952.928.4678 I F:952.928.1318
WWW muca,org
May 13, 2022
VIA EMAIL
Mr. Cal Portner
City Administrator
Elk River City Council
RE: Support for ERX Conditional Use Permit
Dear Mr. Portner,
The Minnesota Utility Contractors Association (MUCA) represents over 140 companies across the state
engaged in underground utility construction. Many of them located in Elk River and the surrounding
communities. I am writing in support of ERX Motor Park for their Conditional Use Permit.
Each year MUCA hosts two events at ERX that are imperative for the community and our industry. ERX
donates their facilities for our usage and its staff goes above and beyond in ensuring our events are
successful. Let me tell you about these worthy events at ERX:
Trades Show & Tell — Construction Career Fair. This FREE event hosts students, parents, and
educators. They come from across the state to learn from construction professionals, explore the
machinery, participate in hands-on demonstrations, and practice new skills with simulators. We work
closely with your school district, ISD 728, to host this event. The construction industry has been facing a
severe workforce shortage for years. This event helps educate the public on the great pay and
rewarding careers available in construction. We need ERX!
Day of the Dozers — Charity event for Children's Minnesota. This event has been held at ERX for the
last 10 years. The contractors donate their equipment, their operators, and their time to give little kids
rides in large, heavy equipment. Dozers, backhoes, and excavators are not the only fun. We also partner
with our utility friends (Connexus, CenterPoint, Xcel) to host a "811 Kids Activity Zone" for families to
learn about safety around utilities. They have activities that teach about "Call Before You Dig" and "Stay
Away from Downed Power Lines". This is good for the families, good for your community, and good for
Children's. Day of the Dozers has raised over $430,000 to benefit families in need by supporting
Children's. We need ERX!
In addition, Day of the Dozers also hosts the Elk River Police Department and the Elk River Fire
Department, offering your community services an opportunity to establish good relations with the people
they serve. We need ERX and Elk River needs ERX too. Please approve the Conditional Use Permit.
Sincerely,
 t
Stephanie Menning, CAE, IOM
Executive Director, MUCA
cc: Chris Leeseberg, Elk River City Council
Heidi Goodin, Envision Company
001R MIS1101N OUR y ILLIIS,
Tas poarcnnaim iNip i.uror!r,igirraunind Ufdl tty liinlaasttry Iby lionestt (amirrrranlionPkins
llirarviia.! njl nrafmttay fu iruing, aDIftlLrIn i Gua rigmim, Turaia gn irminitt I..eaallmu°.sllulilp
a J110lmiranhuig S 017c1 IIP1jllia1mkva; P40fimimsr licalf vinttir [11 gaag Rimumintt
