Elk River Public Library Board Page 3
January 25th, 2022
have to decide what they would want for a budget for that. Mr.
McCormick said that the Great River Regional Library could help
brand some items but the questions of when and where they would
be distributed would have to be answered for direction.
Commissioner Keifenheim asked if the city shares things about the
library on their social media pages. Ms. Schake confirmed that she
does send information over to the city marketing staff to post on
social media when the library has events.
Ms. Schake said that library will be working with Karen Wingard with
Parks and Recreation and Gina Hugo from Sherburne County on the
Story Strolls program again this summer.
Commissioner Voss asked about promoting the library within the
local schools and Ms. Schake explained that the schools have not
allowed the library to send over fliers and share social media posts.
Councilman Christianson asked if the library has participated in
parades. Mr. McCormick said that the library has but staffing can be
an issue on the weekends. Elk Riverfest has been moved from the
first weekend of July to the last weekend to avoid conflict with the
fourth of July. Mr. McCormick said this may help with having staff
available to be at Elk Riverfest. Commissioner Blaske stated that it is
in the bylaws that outreach is part of the library board's mission, and
that Ms. Schake will be providing opportunities for this in her report
at each meeting.
c. Updated on signage in the circular driveway in front of the library
• Ms. Schake explained that with no lines and no parking spots that it
is not clear whether patrons can park or not in the roundabout. The
library does use the area as a curbside pick-up. Mr. Hecker stated that
staff including Justin Femrite, the Public Works Director, is not in
favor of a sign in the roundabout because it is not a fire lane and
without an ordinance, a sign stating no parking or curbside only
would not be enforceable. Mr. Hecker said it would be up to City
Council to make that ordinance change if the Library Board wanted
to pursue placing a sign in that area. Ms. Schake agreed to defer to
the decision of city staff.
5.3 Patron Services Supervisors Report
Mr. McCormick presented his report. He did update that at the end
of 2022 the contract that Great River Regional Library has with the
City of Elk River to pay for three extra hours of staffing will be
expiring.
5.4 Library Services Coordinator Report
• Ms. Schake presented her report. There aren't any outreach
opportunities for the library board at this time, but she is hoping that
by the April meeting she will have some updates for summer.
r
avIREI II
NAYURE
