- <br />LOCAL GOVERNMENT <br />OPIOIDS SETTLEMENT <br />ALLOCATION <br />AGREEMENT <br />HOW MUCH MONEY IS COMING TO MINNESOTAAND WHY? <br />Minnesota, along with a broad coalition of states across the country, has reached agreements with four <br />companies to resolve legal claims for their role in the opioid crisis: manufacturer Johnson& Johnson, <br />andmajor pharmaceutical distributorsAmerisourceBergen, Cardinal Health, and McKesson. The total <br />settlement isare of the settlements is projected to be at least $300 <br />million over 18 years. <br />WHO WAS INVOLVED IN NEGOTIATING THE STATE-SUBDIVISION AGREEMENT? <br />AMemorandum of Agreement (MOA) on the allocation anddistribution of these settlement funds was <br />negotiated by representatives of local governments, the League of Minnesota Cities, the Association of <br />Minnesota Counties, the Coalition of Greater Minnesota Cities, and the State of Minnesota. <br />HOW ARE SETTLEMENT FUNDS TO BE USED? <br />Settlement funds must be used to support specific strategies to fight the opioid crisisthat are identified <br />in the MOA. Although not all cities will receive a direct allocation from the settlements,all cities will <br />have the potential to accesscounty and state grants, and will benefit from the opioid remediation <br />efforts by others that take place in their communities <br />WHAT IS PROCESS TO OPT IN AND WHAT ARE THE DEADLINES? <br />There is a deadline of January 2, 2022, for a sufficient threshold of Minnesota cities and counties to sign <br />on to the State-Subdivision Agreementand to opt intothe national settlements. Failure to timely sign <br />on maysignificantly impact the amount of settlement funds ultimately receivedby Minnesota.
