Stay Involved in Planning Efforts along
Highway 10 near the Downtown
MnDOT also worked with Elk River and Sherburne County
to complete a vision for Highway 10 west of the Highway
101/10/169 interchange. A June 2010 Environmental
Assessment for the corridor in Elk River identified the
long-term vision of a freeway facility, where Highway 10
is reconstructed as a four -lane freeway with a frontage
road providing local service on the south side of the
highway. Various underpasses (including at Jackson and
Main Streets) and overpasses would allow for local street
connections. A critical and challenging feature of this
vision is the realignment of BNSF railway to the north to
accommodate the new roadways and structures. Given
the recent focus on reconstruction of Highway 169 and the
ongoing nature of Highway 10 planning studies to the east,
there has been relatively minimal effort towards next steps
to this vision of Highway 10 near downtown Elk River.
Cross Street Cross -Sections
Since any interventions to Highway 10 in this area have the
potential to greatly impact Elk River's downtown, the city
should keep open lines of communication with MnDOT
and Sherburne County to ensure no plans are made for
this segment of the corridor without input directly from the
city.
Highway 10 Prelimina ry Design and Environmental Documentation, SRF Consulting Group Inc and MnDOT
Elk River Comprehensive Plan - Transportation & Mobility Plan
07[L\arr0]AOWN IVAVKOIilk1W1
