Coordinate with
PartnerAgencies
Jurisdiction is an important factor in determining the
extent to which Elk River can manage roadway mainte-
nance and overall function. While US Highways 10 and 169
are under MnDOT control, Sherburne County has jurisdic-
tion over County State Aid Highways (CSAH 1,12,13, and 33)
and County Roads (CSAH 30, 32, 33, 34, 35, 40, 44, 79, and
121). Most other roadways are under the city's authority.
A very small percentage of the community's streets are
privately maintained by neighborhood associations.
It will be essential for the city to continue coordinating
future public infrastructure investments with MnDOT and
Sherburne County officials. State and county roads form
the backbone for mobility in and through Elk River. As
these agencies evolve their systems, the city will need to
synchronize its road improvement projects such that the
changes are in alignment and supportive of each agency's
objectives.
The Elk River municipal boundary abuts several communi-
ties including Nowthen, Ramsey, and Otsego. The city also
shares its eastern border with Sherburne County, which
is adjacent to Anoka County. These entities' respective
capital improvements can dramatically impact develop-
ment patterns within Elk River and vice versa. Maintaining
open lines of communication with these jurisdictions
will ensure future public investments benefit everyone.
Ongoing planning efforts for the Highway 10 corridor
represent the most important transportation coordination
priority for Elk River. Partnership with MnDOT, Sherburne
and Ankoa Counties, and the City of Ramsey will be critical
for achieving a shared vision for the corridor.
Roadway Jurisdiction
80
Transportation & Mobility Plan • Elk River Comprehensive Plan
101A-11aa9i1M0:LV/l: LVAN0101VA
