A <br />rt" <br />Cross Country Ski Trail <br />Grants -In -Aid Program <br />q <br />The Cross Country Ski Trail Grants -In -Aid Program, funded <br />by revenue from the Great Minnesota Ski Pass, supports <br />the maintenance and grooming of cross-country ski <br />trails. Local units of government are eligible grantees. This <br />program is administered by the Minnesota Department <br />of Natural Resources, which makes payments for the trail <br />maintenance performance benchmark (40% of the grant) <br />and the remaining 60% of the grant reimbursement based <br />on the number of hours groomed and the established <br />grooming rates. <br />Local Trail Connections Program <br />The Local Trail Connections Program is administered by <br />the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources and <br />provides reimbursement grants to local units of govern- <br />ment to fill in small gaps between destinations and <br />residential areas. The program is supported by "In Lieu <br />Of' lottery proceeds. Eligible projects include acquisition <br />of and development of trails. Eligible applicants include <br />counties, cities and townships, and grant requests can <br />range from $5,000-$150,000 consisting of up to 75% of the <br />total eligible project costs with a minimum 25% non -state <br />cash match. In 2020, Sherburne County was awarded <br />$100,000 for a $208,600 project to install a new trail <br />system to improve connectivity to the Sherburn History <br />Center. <br />9 <br />Federal Recreation Trail Program <br />The Federal Recreational Trail Program is administered <br />by Minnesota Department of Natural Resources with the <br />purpose of encouraging the maintenance and develop- <br />ment of motorized, non -motorized, and diversified trails <br />by providing funding assistance. Projects include construc- <br />tion, rehabilitation design, and redesign of recreational <br />trail linkages, their facilities, and programs for environ- <br />mental and safety awareness. All projects must be spon- <br />sored by a unit of government, preferably in cooperation <br />with a local trail organization. Projects that involve urban <br />youth corps workers such as the Conservation Corps of <br />Minnesota S Iowa will be given special consideration. The <br />minimum grant request is $2,500, and the maximum trail <br />grant award is $150,000. Equipment grants are capped at <br />$75,000 and require a 25% secured match. <br />Outdoor Recreation Grant Program <br />The Outdoor Recreation Grant Program is funded and <br />administered by the Metropolitan Council and the <br />Greater Minnesota Regional Park and Trails Commission. <br />This program is intended for projects that increase and <br />enhance outdoor recreation facilities in local and commu- <br />nity parks throughout the state. The Outdoor Recreation <br />Grant Program provides matching grants to local units of <br />government for up to 50% of the cost of acquisition, devel- <br />opment and/or redevelopment of local parks and recre- <br />ation areas.
