Presendy, the Street
Department has 9 plow routes with 10 trucks (one for a spare) with an average age of 11.6
years.

Model Yeat Unit Number ~
1980 220 25 years (spare unit)
1984 207 21 years
1984 219 21 years
1987 223 18 years
1987 224 18 years
1999 226 6 years
2000 227 5 years
2003 231 2 years
2004 234 1 year
2005 235 on line 11/05

The Street Department trucks have a programmed service life of 20 years. These vehicles
are well maintained and routinely serviced, however when a truck reaches that age its
dependability is in question.

A routine replacement schedule for aging trucks is further complicated by the City's growth
factor. A plow route is between 12 and 15 miles, and with our current rate of de-v-elopment,
we need to add a truck route every 2 to 3 years. Therefore, a truck that is scheduled for
retirement will need to remain in service for one or two years longer as a front line unit to
cover the new miles of roadway.
