Prioritize Wayfinding
In 2020,the City completed the final phase of the adopted
^lr, Wayfinding MasterPlan. The Plan ensures consistency and
I continuity for all City signage throughout Elk River and
enhances the overall brand of the community.Wayfinding
also helps to market City amenities and promote economic
r-- development. As the next step in the City's wayfinding
` y campaign,Elk River should consider establishing Down-
1 town gateway signage at Jackson Ave and Railroad Drive
and Main Street and Parrish Avenue.
k; l
! Engage Students in the Design of Banners
In addition to gateway signage, the City should consider
developing standard streetlight banners that can be
displayed year round in the Downtown as well as seasonal
and temporary streetlight banners to provide variety and
interest. The City should work with the school district to
.. engage students in an art competition to design streetlight
i banners that represent what the community means to
them. The City can ensure student designs complement
the overall branding strategy for the Downtown by setting
a theme for colors and design elements that should be
utilized.Utilizing student art in these banners would set
the community apart and highlight one of its greatest
assets,its schools.
'$_
•,.` k
u
7
L
Student Designed Banner,Fairfield CT
68 Economic Development Plan Elk River Comprehensive Plan
DRAFT FOR REVIEW ONLY
