Trip Generation and Traffic Distribution Analysis
• Basis of Analysis:
• ITE - Institute of Transportation Engineers' Trip Generation, 1011 Edition, is the only reference
adopted by the transportation engineering community for estimating traffic from new
developments. MnDOT, Sherburne County, and the City of Elk River utilize the methodology
from Trip Generation.
• The results from Trip Generation analysis inform agencies of the need to improve roadway
capacity, or not, for local roads, collector roads or highways.
• The analysis for Broadway on 10 reviewed the number of trips from the existing homes in the
adjacent neighborhood, as well as the proposed number of residential units from the
development. These trips were assigned to the existing and proposed roadway connections
based on travel times from Google Maps.
• In this circumstance, the study area includes the proposed development street network, the
service drive to the west to the nearest access to US Hwy. 10, Yankton Street and Xerxes Street,
and Waco Street.
