System Average Interruption Frequency Index (SAIFI) <br />SAIFI is defined as the average number of instances a customer on the utility system will <br />experience an interruption during a specific period. <br />Since SAIFI is a sustained interruption index, only outages lasting longer than five <br />minutes are included in the calculations. SAIFI is calculated by dividing the total number <br />of customer interruptions by the average number of customers served during that period. <br />For example, a utility with 150 customer interruptions and 200 customers would have a <br />SAIFI of 0.75 interruptions per customer. <br />Table 4.
