Applicant - Any person applying for a paid or volunteer position. <br />1A7f$ 1 M M VM <br />In accepting employment with the City of Elk River, employees become representatives of the city and <br />are responsible for assisting and serving the residents for whom they work. Employees shall exhibit <br />conduct that is ethical, professional, responsive, and of standards becoming of a city employee. To <br />achieve this goal, employees must adhere to established policies, rules, and procedures and follow the <br />instructions of their supervisors. <br />All City of Elk River employees are expected to meet the following job requirements: <br />■ Always perform <br />assigned duties satisfactorily and to the best of their abilities. <br />■ Always render prompt and <br />courteous service to the public as appropriate. <br />■ Read, understand, and comply with the rules and regulations as set forth in these Personnel <br />Policies as well as those of their departments. <br />■ Conduct themselves with decorum toward both residents and staff and respond to inquiries and <br />information requests with patience and courtesy. <br />■ Report all unsafe conditions to the immediate supervisor. <br />■ Maintain good attendance. <br />Orientation Period <br />The Orientation Period is an integral part of the employment process in which the city and the new <br />employee should consider whether the employment is mutually satisfactory. <br />The Orientation Period consists of the first six (6) months of employment. During the period, the city <br />will observe the employee's work to determine whether the employee demonstrates-d-,at s/he is qualified <br />for the position to which s/he was appointed. Performance, skills, ability, and other factors observed and <br />demonstrated during the period are evaluated by the employee's supervisor :n 0 fde f to del 1111-C <br />If the employee does not meet established standards, and there is <br />reason to believe, in the city's sole discretion, that a longer review period is needed, the Orientation <br />Period may be extended to a total of 12 months. <br />New employees are not allowed to take vacation leave during their Orientation Period unless approved <br />by the city administrator or aooroved before hire. <br />Upon satisfitefofy completion of the Orientation Period, the employee will become a rRegular employee <br />and are eligible to use vacation leave. This does not imply employment is permanent. <br />Employees promoted or appointed to new positions must successfully complete a six en six-month <br />Orientation Period. If found during the orientation to be unsuited for the position, the city, at its sole <br />discretion, may reinstate the employee to his/her former position and former rate of pay.
