Separation from Employment <br />Resignation <br />The purpose of proper notice is to ensure an orderly transition of responsibilities and open work items. <br />Holidays or the use of vacation, sick, or compensatory time may only be approved by the city administer <br />to be considered proper notice. <br />With proper notice, the employee will be compensated for any accrued, unused vacation time. If eligible, <br />s/he may also be compensated for a portion of banked sick leave as stated in the Severance Pay Section of <br />this policy manual. <br />Proper notice must be submitted in writing to the employee's supervisor . <br />Employees working a typical Monday through Friday schedule must rp ovide <br />notice at least ten (10) working days prior to the <br />separation date. Department directors must provide a twenty (20) working days <br />wfitten7-notice.- Employees <br />working a shift schedule that may include weekends and evenings shall provide a fourteen (14) calendar <br />day notice. <br />V4th pfopef notiee, the employee will be compensated fof any aeeftted, t1fittsed vaeation time S/he was <br />eligible to use dtifing that yeaf. if eligible, s/he may also be eempensated f0f a peftion of banked sie <br />Non-exempt employees will be compensated for any accrued but unused compensatory time as of the <br />date of separation. <br />An unauthorized absence from work for a period of three (3) or more working days may be considered a <br />resignation without proper notice. <br />Failure to comply with this notice procedure may be considered reason for denying an employee future <br />employment with the city. <br />Q,iTermination <br />Employees terminated from employment have no right or expectation of payment of accrued vacation, <br />sick, and/or holiday leave time. <br />Retirement <br />Employees who retire from employment must follow the Resignation policy above and may be eligible <br />for retirement programs as provided by state or federal law. <br />15 <br />
