Jury Duty Leave and Court Appearances <br />Employees are allowed a leave of absence pursuant to state statutes without restriction or sanction when <br />called for jury duty. <br />■ An employee performing jury duty or testifying in court for city -related business will receive the <br />difference between his/her regular rate of pay and the amount received as juror or witness up to <br />the maximum allowed by state or federal law. Upon receipt of payment from the court, <br />documentation of payment shall be provided to Human Resources. <br />■ The employee must notify his/her supervisor and initiate a leave of absence within forty-eight <br />(48) hours of receiving call for jury duty. <br />■ An employee excused or released from jury duty during regular work hours must report to <br />his/her supervisor immediately thereafter. <br />■ Time spent on jury duty will not count as time worked in computing overtime. <br />Victim or Witness Leave <br />Employees subpoenaed or requested by a prosecutor to testify in court related to sexual assault, domestic <br />abuse, or stalking, who is the victim or is the spouse or immediate family member of such victim, shall be <br />allowed the use of sick leave for reasonable time off from work to attend criminal proceedings related to <br />the victim's case. See the Safety Leave under the Sick Leave Policy for additional information. <br />Bereavement Leave <br />Regular full-time and regular part-time employees working a minimum of 1,040 hours per year are <br />permitted a paid leave from scheduled work to make funeral arrangements, for funeral attendance, to care <br />for survivors, gather with relatives, and/or to otherwise grieve a familial death. Bereavement leave is <br />prorated for eligible regular, part-time employees according to the number of hours worked. Leave is <br />limited to the following: <br />■ Up to five (5) days: Husband, wife, mother, father, son, daughter, brother, sister, stepmother, <br />stepfather, stepson, stepdaughter, stepbrother, and stepsister. <br />■ Up to three (3) days: Son-in-law, daughter-in-law, mother-in-law, father-in-law, grandparent, or <br />grandchild. <br />■ One (1) day: Aunt, uncle, cousin, niece, nephew, sister-in-law, brother-in-law, Godchild, <br />grandparent -in-law. <br />Leave days shall be concurrent unless approved by the city administrator and supervisor. <br />Additional time off for bereavement may be granted and charged to vacation leave or compensatory time, <br />if available. Employees covered by a collective bargaining agreement shall receive bereavement benefits as <br />stated in the collective bargaining agreement. <br />General Leave <br />The city recognizes that unique personal circumstances may cause an employee to seek time off without <br />pay. The city may, at its sole discretion, grant unpaid personal leaves of absence (General Leave). <br />Approval is required from the immediate supervisor, department director, and the city administrator. <br />General Leave shall not exceed ninety (90) days, unless approved by the city administrator. <br />Vacation and sick leave do not accrue during a General Leave and the employee is not eligible for holiday <br />pay. The city will not contribute to the cost of insurance premiums for an employee on General Leave. <br />
