Sherburne County Multi -Hazard Mitigation Plan, 2020 <br />CITY OF BECKER <br />Part A: Past Events & Vulnerability Assessment <br />1. In the last 5 years, has your community experienced any severe weather or disaster events <br />that posed risk to life safety, caused property damage, or incurred costs for recovery? We <br />have noted minor damage around community due to inclement weather. Timeframe and <br />amount of damage has varied. Typical damage has been to trees, vehicles, or to houses around <br />the community. <br />2. In the last 5 years, has your community taken any particular actions to reduce the <br />vulnerability of your community against future severe weather or disaster events? Our <br />streets dept has made numerous updates/upgrades to several streets within the city and this <br />includes updating the storm water sewer system at the same time. <br />Road improvements will continue underthe City capital improvement plan. <br />The police department has been utilizing social media (Facebook) and NIXLE to update and <br />communicate with the public related to events and weather affecting the City. <br />In the past 5 years, has anything, especially related to zoning or development, changed <br />that you feel has increased your community's vulnerability to future severe weather or <br />disaster events? No. <br />4. What concerns do you have / what mitigation actions do you think would help your <br />community to reduce or eliminate risk against future severe weather or disaster events? <br />The City continues to update its infrastructure which is starting to age (streets, sewer, <br />wastewater). <br />The City is in the process of purchasing an additional mobile generatorto be used for lift <br />stations, or where needed. In addition, City Hall is also looking at a generator should power go <br />out. <br />For security purposes, the City is also beginning to install security cameras to protect all city <br />properties and buildings. <br />Part B: Local Mitigation Capabilities Assessment <br />1. What plans, authorities, or policies are in place to help accomplish mitigation in your <br />community?
