Sherburne County Multi -Hazard Mitigation Plan, 2020 <br />• Extreme Temperatures - the winter of 10I& presented extended periods of below zero <br />temperatures. Encouraging homeowners to be prepared with generators was noted in <br />Un event of extended power outages. <br />■ Emnsilon, Landslides S. Land Subsidence-Erosiorilland subsidence was deemed lobe a <br />higher risk since the 2013 plan, due to an increase in high precipitation events- <br />0 Wildfire - Wildland fires were considered to be a higher risk since the last plan. <br />Considerations included more development pressure {people building in higher -risk <br />areas). Working with unincorporated areas on defensible space was noted. the City <br />of Elk River already requires a 30'rone of defensible spare with new development. <br />• Drought -No noted change in the last 5 years. <br />Dam Failure -Noted as a law risk in the County. <br />5. Review of mitigation strategies and examples of related mitigation actions. <br />b. An overview of the FLMA Hazard Mitigation Assistance (HMA) Grants program. <br />Following the presentation, a facilitated Mitigation Action Working Session was held. Participants <br />discussed the natural hazards of concern to their communities and filled out Mitigation Ideas <br />Worksheets to identify new, lunsdictionally-specific mitigation actons to be Included in the MHMP plan <br />update. Mitigation actions were required to fail within one of the 5 mitigation action strategies: <br />1. Local Planningand Regulations <br />t. Structure and infrastructure Projects <br />3. Natural Systems Protection <br />4. Education and Awareness Programs <br />S. Mitigation Preparedness and Response Support <br />Fallowing the Mitigation Action Working Session, the group then discussed the upcoming process and <br />anticipated timeline for engaging the public and other key stakeholders in the plan update.
