Sherburne County Multi -Hazard Mitigation Plan, 2020 <br />Sherburne County <br />Multi -Hazard Mitigation Plan Update <br />May 31, 2019 MHMP Planning Team Meeting #1 <br />Sherburne County Sheriff's Office (ECG} — FA River, MN <br />1 &.00 a.m. —12:00 p,m. <br />Nleetlnre 5uTnmpry <br />On Friday, May 31, 2019, key county, city, and township representatives, as well as other stakeholders <br />were convened to participate in a Planning Team Meeting for the update of Sherburne County Multi - <br />Hazard Mltigatia+ Plan (MHMP), The meeting was facilitated by the University of Minnesota — Duluth <br />Geospatial Analysis Center (GAC) project team who are leading the update of the Sherburne County <br />MHMP. A total of 26 people attended the meeting. <br />the opening presentation covered 6 key a real: <br />1. The purpose of hazard mttigabon planning, <br />2. the role & responsibilities of the Planning Team. <br />3. An overview of content in the MHMP {County physical & social profile, Asset Inventory, Hazard <br />Assessment and Vulnerability Analysis, Capability Assessment and Mitigation Actions). <br />4. Review and discussion of natural hazards that pose risk to the County, including consideration of <br />the folkrwing: <br />• How has the risk to severe natural hazard events irxreased or decreased siw* the last <br />plan? <br />Are there jurisdictional variations in risk? <br />• Are there iacul vulrwmbifr'ties to consider? <br />Have there been changes in development? <br />Planning Team Discussion Notes; <br />Sever Winter Storms — No noted changes in the last 5 years. Severe winter storms <br />occur reguiarty in Sherburne County. The need for backup power was noted for bate <br />local gay ernrnents (for p)oces like City Ball, Fire Halls) as well as locos residents in the <br />event of extended power ou tog es, <br />• Severe Summer Storms - Sherburne County was greatly impacted by one of the earliest <br />recorded tornados in the state of MN in March, 2017. Thes form caused damage to <br />private properties, trees, powerlines and localraadways. Main concerns for severe <br />spring & summer storms are making sure that more people are signed up for <br />emergency notifications, as welt as constructing or retrofitting storm shelters orsofe <br />rooms where there are people vulnerable to high winds severe storms or tornado <br />events (i.e., campgrounds, mobile home parks). <br />■ Floodinr7/Erosion — Ffooding/Erosion was felt to be a higher concern with the increase <br />In high•predpitation events in the last S yeam in particular high water below the Fi'k <br />River dam is eroding the banks, needs to be addressed. <br />Page IE-6 <br />
