G. Assists with maintaining department in a continual state of readiness in order to <br />effectively deal with emergencies <br />2. Community Risk Reduction Activities <br />A. Ensures fire code enforcement, fire prevention, investigation, and community <br />outreach. <br />B. Prepares reports and presentations tailored to specific audiences. <br />C. Evaluates community risks and develops/advocates strategies to prevent or mitigate <br />the risk to life, property, and resources. <br />D. Evaluates and ensures operation meets Insurance Service Office (ISO), NFPA and <br />other industry standards. <br />E. Assists the fire chief with daily administration of the department including program <br />development, planning, and performance management. <br />F. Executes life safety programs including building pre -plans, lock box program, and <br />areas with an impact on firefighter's life safety at commercial buildings. <br />G. Provides ongoing evaluation and modification of a community outreach program. <br />H. Ensures customer service is maintained at a high level throughout the division. <br />3. Serves as Deputy Fire Marshal <br />A. Implements all aspects of NFPA1730 Standard. <br />B. Conducts rental inspections for the Rental Dwelling Program prior to the issuance of <br />rental licenses. <br />C. Reviews and confirms Tier II chemical inventories via annual site inspections. <br />Retains records as required by Minnesota Department of Health. <br />D. Conducts existing food service establishment hood and duct inspections to ensure <br />compliance with the Minnesota State Fire Code. <br />E. Ensures transparent project communication by clearly vetting and documenting all <br />issues/outcomes with city building safety staff and other affected parties. <br />F. Performs fire inspections for existing commercial buildings. <br />G. Performs fire scene investigation to determine potential causes of fire. <br />H. Enforces public safety laws and codes to minimize loss of life and property, <br />including record management of past inspection reports and data. <br />I. Investigates fire safety regulation violations and issues corrective orders as <br />appropriate. <br />J. Acts as the DNR Fire Warden for the city. Reviews and permits recreational fire <br />burns. <br />K. Develops and communicates specific departmental policies for new construction to <br />building division. <br />L. Participates in new development site plan review. <br />4. Community Outreach <br />A. Develops short- and long-term objectives to ensure the safety and education of <br />residents and businesses. <br />B. Participates in community events to preserve and enhance the image of the <br />department. <br />C. Develops cooperative working relationships with residents, property owners, <br />contractors, and neighboring municipalities. <br />D.
