5. Performs other essential job duties <br />A. Regular and timely work attendance. <br />B. Follows all safety procedures. <br />C. Participates in safety training. <br />Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities <br />❑ Knowledge of firefighting equipment practices, principles, methods, and techniques utilized <br />in modem fire suppression. <br />❑ Knowledge of building and fire codes, fire prevention laws, ordinances, and statutes. <br />❑ Understanding of human resource laws, policies, and procedures to assist with department <br />personnel issues. <br />❑ Skilled in performing Incident Command/Safety Officer responsibilities at emergency <br />scenes. <br />❑ Ability to effectively communicate with the public, city staff, City Council and other <br />governmental agencies. <br />❑ Ability to identify and implement efforts to streamline delivery services as well as revising <br />policies and standard operating procedures as needed. <br />❑ Ability to effectively manage data retention, release, and disposal. <br />❑ Ability to efficiently use a computer including MS Office and record management systems. <br />❑ Ability to work independently and work a flexible schedule including evenings and <br />weekends. <br />Minimum Qualifications <br />❑ One year of community risk reduction experience. <br />❑ Five years training and experience as a firefighter. <br />❑ Certified Firefighter I <br />❑ Certified Firefighter II <br />❑ Certified First Responder <br />❑ Certified Fire Inspector I <br />❑ Certified Fire Inspector II or the ability to obtain within 1 year of hire <br />❑ Licensed Fire Fighter by the state of Minnesota or ability to obtain within 6 mths of hire. <br />❑ One-year field experience as a fire inspector. <br />❑ Demonstrated experience and competence with Microsoft Office Suite. <br />❑ Valid driver's license and good driving record. <br />Preferred Qualifications <br />❑ Post -secondary training in the field of fire prevention and code enforcement. <br />❑ Associate Degree in Fire Science, Fire Administration, or related field. <br />❑ Management experience in supervision, administration, and training. <br />This Position Description is not intended to be all-inclusive.
