USG – Utility Service Group – An engineering subdivision of Great River Energy. Until they <br />were closed by GRE, ERMU used USG for engineering services including substation design, <br />fuse coordination studies, fault current studies, and equipment specifications. <br /> <br />106. UPA – United Power Association – A power provider for Elk River Municipal Utilities <br />(ERMU) until 1999 when it merged with the Cooperative Power Association to <br />become Great River Energy, which provided power to ERMU until 2018. <br /> <br />V <br /> <br />107. V – Volt – The Standard International unit of electric potential or electromotive <br />force. <br /> <br />W <br /> <br />108. W – Watt – A unit of power in the International System of Units used to quantify the <br />rate of energy transfer. <br /> <br />109. WAPA – Western Area Power Administration – One of four power marketing <br />administrations within the U.S. Department of Energy whose role is to market and <br />transmit wholesale electricity from multi-use water projects. WAPA brings electricity <br />from hydropower plants to its service area, encompassing a 15-state region, <br />including western Minnesota. <br /> <br />110. WHE – Wright-Hennepin Cooperative Electric Association – A member-owned, not- <br />for-profit electric utility that provides power to rural Wright County and western <br />Hennepin County. The cooperative began in 1937 and currently serves over 50,000 <br />electric accounts. It is headquartered in Rockford, MN. <br /> <br />111. WM – Waste Management, Inc. – A trash removal and recycling pickup service. WM <br />also operates the Elk River Landfill which is the location of the Landfill Gas to Energy <br />plant owned by ERMU. <br /> <br />X <br /> <br />112. Xcel – Excel Energy, Inc. – A regulated, investor-owned electric and natural gas delivery <br />company with four utility subsidiaries. They serve 3.6 million electric and 2 million natural <br />gas customers across parts of Minnesota, North Dakota, and South Dakota (Northern States <br />Power Company-Minnesota); Wisconsin and Michigan (Northern States Power Company- <br />Wisconsin), Colorado (Public Service Company of Colorado); and Texas and New Mexico <br />(Southwestern Public Service Company). <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br />228
