COMMONLY USED ACRONYMS <br />A <br />1.ABS – Accounting and Business Solutions – National Information Solutions <br />Cooperative (NISC) accounting software used by ERMU. <br />2.AC – Alternating Current – A flow of electric charge that alternates directions in a <br />repetitive pattern 60 times per second. AC is the current distributed to homes and <br />businesses. An advantage to AC is that it is relatively easy to change the voltage of <br />the power with a transformer. This allows generators to send high voltages over long <br />distances, making AC the cost-effective method for transmission. <br />3.AMI – Advanced Metering Infrastructure – An integrated system of smart meters, <br />communications networks, and data management systems that enables two -way <br />communication between utilities and customers. <br />4.AMR – Automatic Meter Reading – The technology to automatically collect <br />consumption, diagnostic, and status data from water or electric metering devices <br />and transfer that data to a central database for billing, troubleshooting, and <br />analyzing. <br />5.APPA – American Public Power Association – The voice of not-for-profit, community- <br />owned utilities that power 2,000 towns and cities nationwide. Represents public <br />power before the federal government to protect the interests of the more than 49 <br />million people that public power utilities serve, and the 93,000 people they employ. <br />An advocate and adviser on electricity policy, technology, trends, training, and <br />operations. <br />6.AWWA – American Water Works Association – An international, nonprofit, scientific <br />and educational society dedicated to providing total water solutions assuring the <br />effective management of water.
