PROJECT UNDERSTANDING
Everything is made of stardust. I find it utterly amazing that every atom in our bodies, and
everything we interact with, are atoms created in the blazing hearts of stars and, when those
stars blast themselves apart in a supernova, their heavy atoms spread throughout the universe.
Elk River is much like that star. The community recognizes how important public art is and has
slowly aggregated into an environment where art and community are forged into a unified
force to enhance the lives of those they touch throughout the world. Pretty cool stuff, really.
Molecular speaks to that nurturing role. Simple
atoms aggregate into something more. The cubic •
"atoms" combine into a larger molecule which glows
"fiN
from the power within. The roof is cubic shapes
reminiscent of stalactites. These represent the slow
steady drip and accumulation of knowledge over the ' ,'
course of time. The cave-like stalactites also ''
reference the caves where we have found the oldest
human art (at least 40,000 years). The four pillars are 4 /
a representation of the Pillars of Creation -- a massive ,
star factory in the Eagle Nebula. ,, .
Craig Snyder/Homan Wong Elk RiverProposal
