City of Elk River <br /> City of Juvenile Detective Sergeant <br /> Elk <br /> River Position Description <br /> Department: Immediate Supervisor: <br /> Police Administrative Captain <br /> Pay Grade: FLSA Status: Last Updated: (date) <br /> Union Non-exempt 12/2019 <br /> Positions Supervised: <br /> Juvenile Detective, Drug Task Force Detective <br /> Position Summary <br /> The Juvenile Detective Sergeant works under the direction of the Administrative Captain and the <br /> Police Chief. Investigates alleged felonies,gross misdemeanors and serious misdemeanor incidents <br /> in the city of Elk River to establish facts necessary for clearance or arrest and court action. <br /> Supervises the juvenile detectives and the drug task force detective. Performs patrol duties and <br /> other duties as assigned by the Administrative Captain or the Police Chief. <br /> Essential Functions <br /> 1. Performs supervisory duties. <br /> A. Directs, advises and assists juvenile detectives and drug task force detectives with <br /> decisions and actions regarding calls, arrests, or other incidents. <br /> B. Directs and supervises juvenile detectives, drug task force detectives and officers. <br /> C. Performs timely annual performance reviews of all employees supervised. <br /> D. Maintains accurate and complete supervisory records regarding employees and <br /> designated responsibilities. <br /> E. Monitors and directs adherence to department policies,procedures,performance <br /> standards, state, and federal law. <br /> F. Encourages and assists employees with personal development and goals relating to <br /> their position. <br /> G. Recognizes and identifies training needs and deficiencies. <br /> H. Recognizes and identifies policy and procedure needs or changes and makes <br /> recommendation. <br /> I. Provides corrective counseling and disciplinary measures or recommends disciplinary <br /> action, as appropriate within department guidelines. <br /> J. Receives and investigates complaints on employees. <br /> 2. Performs administrative duties. <br /> A. Works in an advisory and technical role with other agencies as assigned to develop <br /> maximum cooperation and efficient use of investigative resources. <br /> B. Shares information with appropriate departmental personnel and other agencies. <br /> C. Maintains community relations through public speaking, exhibits, tours, and various <br /> programs. <br /> D. Assists with preparing the annual budget and completing purchases for the juvenile <br /> investigative unit. <br /> E. Performs administrative tasks as directed. <br /> F. In cooperation with the Adult Detective Sergeant, assigns and schedules employee <br /> workload. <br /> G. Assists with internal investigations as directed. <br /> H.
