Arena Commission Minutes Page 3 <br />April 17, 2018 <br />----------------------------- <br />8.2 2018- 2019 Ice Rates <br />Arena Manager Czech notes the prime rates were raised last spring, and typically they <br />are done every other year. However, the non -prime rates have not been raised for <br />several cycles, and he proposes an increase of $5/hour. <br />Commissioner Cunningham states it is a struggle to raise rates when the arena has <br />money in the bank and no plan to fix the current issues. <br />Commissioner Ballenger agrees he struggles as well since the group he represents <br />(Youth Hockey) is not happy with the way things are, but adds he feels the <br />relationship between the Arena/Youth Hockey/The City ate the best it has ever <br />been. <br />Commissioner Balabon adds when a new facility is built, people will understand that <br />there will be a larger jump in the rates. <br />Commissioner Williams states if the Arena Commission doesn't vote to increase the <br />prime rate because of the condition of the rink it will cause issues. <br />Commissioner Cunningham suggests tabling the issue until the August meeting. <br />Commissioner Westgaard notes that would send a message to Council. <br />Motion made by Commissioner Cunningham and seconded by Commissioner <br />Ballenger to table a vote on 8.2 until the next regular meeting. Motion passes <br />7-0. <br />8.3 Shadow Box for Blake Hillman <br />Motion made by Commissioner Ballenger and seconded by Commissioner <br />Balabon to add a shadow box for Blake Hillman. Motion passes 7-0. <br />8.4 Ballard King Study <br />Motion made by Commissioner Ballenger and seconded by Commissioner <br />Williams to spend up to $7,000 with Ballard King. Motion passes 7-0. <br />9. Arena Manager's Update <br />Spring Craft Show is May 5-6 <br />Midwest Hockey Tournament just happened, during which some kids <br />knocked down Youth Hockey's office door — approximates $530 to repair. <br />Was caught on video and has been reported to ERPD. <br />More Midwest Tournaments happening in May and in August.
