SECTION 02720-AGGREGATE BASE <br /> PART 1-- GENERAL <br /> 1.1 SUMMARY <br /> A. This section covers the furnishing of all labor, materials,tools,equipment and performances of all work and <br /> services necessary or incidental to construct the aggregate base course as indicated on the drawings or as <br /> specified herein. <br /> 1.2 METHODS OF MEASUREMENT AND PAYMENT <br /> A. Measurement and compensation for the following items shall be paid according to the referenced <br /> specification or as modified below: <br /> 1. No exception to the referenced specification is made. <br /> 2. The quantities for aggregate base are strictly estimates and may be increased or decreased by any <br /> amount with no adjustment in unit price according to the extent of aggregate base used to backfill <br /> subgrade excavations and the extent of reclaimed material available. <br /> B. The furnishing and installing of specific items and/or the performance of work under certain circumstances <br /> shall not be individually paid in the absence of a specific bid item for the work. The costs shall be included <br /> in the unit price bid for the associated aggregate items.Such items of work include but are not limited to: <br /> 1. Protecting existing improvements and previously accepted in-process improvements from damage. <br /> 2. Subgrade excavation,furnishing stabilizing aggregate,geotextile fabric installation,compaction, <br /> regrading and/or other efforts necessary to repair the subgrade after satisfying the rolling test and <br /> failing to protect the integrity of the subgrade. <br /> 3. The cost of all labor,equipment and materials necessary for meeting the testing requirements of field <br /> quality control, if required, include in price bid for Aggregate Base. <br /> 4. Furnishing and installing blue tops for gravel surface. <br /> 5. Test rolling of the compacted aggregate base using a fully loaded aggregate truck(tandem).. <br /> 1.3 SPECIFICATION REFERENCES <br /> A. Mn DOT 2211 shall apply to the construction of aggregate base,except as modified herein. <br /> B. Unless noted otherwise,the provisions in this section are in addition to the referenced specification. <br /> PART 2-- PRODUCTS <br /> 2.1 MATERIALS <br /> A. When no percent crushing is designated in the Schedule of Prices,the material to be used shall conform to <br /> the Specifications for Aggregate Base Class 5 modified so that the percent passing the No. 200 sieve shall be <br /> 8 to 10 percent. <br /> B. When the schedule of unit prices calls for 100 percent crushed aggregate base,the material to be used shall <br /> conform to the Specifications for Aggregate Base Class 5, modified so that the material consists of <br /> 100 percent crushed rock. The gradation shall also be modified so that the percent passing the No.200 <br /> sieve shall be 5 to 10 percent. <br /> C. Materials included here consist of new Class 5 aggregate base. If additional rock is added to meet the Class <br /> 5 gradation,the added materials must pass the Los Angeles Rattler(L.A.R.)test.
