SECTION 02330-EXCAVATION AND EMBANKMENT <br /> PART 1-- GENERAL <br /> 1.1 SUMMARY <br /> A. This section covers the furnishing of all labor, materials,tools,equipment and performance of all work and <br /> services necessary or incidental to the excavation and embankment for roadways and pavements and <br /> construction of storm water detention facilities as indicated on the drawings or as specified herein. <br /> 1.2 METHOD OF MEASUREMENT AND PAYMENT <br /> A. Measurement and compensation for the following items shall be paid according to the referenced <br /> specification or as modified below: <br /> 1. Common Excavation: <br /> (a) Measurement and payment for Common Excavation shall be based upon the CUBIC YARD, PLAN <br /> QUANTITY-CY(P). <br /> (b) Excavation for construction of aggregate base to the depths specified or shown on the plans under <br /> concrete curb and gutter,concrete sidewalk and concrete driveways is included with the Common <br /> Excavation (P) quantity. <br /> (c) Unless specifically identified as a separate bid item, reclaiming existing bituminous material, mixing <br /> with underlying granular material, loading and temporarily stockpiling the mixture is considered <br /> incidental to the Common Excavation. <br /> 2. Subgrade Excavation: <br /> (a) All excavation directed by the Engineer below the common excavation zone or limits indicated in <br /> the typical sections or cross sections in the plans shall be considered Subgrade Excavation. <br /> (b) Measurement and payment for Subgrade Excavation will be by the CUBIC YARD, EXCAVATED <br /> VOLUME-CY(EV) based on the dimensions of the excavated area. <br /> (c) The quantities for Subgrade Excavation is strictly an estimate and may be increased or decreased <br /> by any amount with no adjustment in unit price according to the conditions revealed. <br /> 3. Backfill for Subgrade Excavations: <br /> (a) No direct compensation will be made for backfilling subcut areas with suitable material from the <br /> excavation. <br /> (b) Payment for stabilizing aggregate, reclaimed bituminous/aggregate,or aggregate base used to <br /> backfill subgrade excavations will be based on the unit of measure and the unit price bid for the <br /> respective items. <br /> (c) The quantities for materials used to backfill subgrade excavations are strictly estimates and may be <br /> increased or decreased by any amount with no adjustment in unit price according to the conditions <br /> revealed. <br /> 4.
