our elecTions: Back To Basics <br />there are many innovative reforms that could improve our elections, <br />including term limits, a lower voting age, proportional models, online <br />voting and various finance reforms. But let’s not forget about the basics <br />too. Proper outreach and communication from the city is essential for our <br />elections to be engaging and relevant to voters. <br />it’s tiMe For a <br />WeBsite Makeover <br />While some city departments are <br />moving towards interactive ‘Web <br />2.0’, the City’s election website is still <br />working towards ‘1.0’. Some of the <br />most basic information that voters <br />need is not there. Ideally, we should <br />be able to enter our postal code and <br />instantly be connected to a page <br />listing our ward candidates, links to <br />their websites, a map of campaign <br />offices and a calendar of debates. <br />Instead, we are faced with awkward <br />navigation, incomplete information <br />and no external links at all. Ar- <br />chaically, the City refuses to provide <br />any hyperlinks to campaigns and <br />will only provide information for <br />campaigns who have filled out a <br />special paper form – by fax, mail <br />or hand-delivery.
