C. Unless noted otherwise,the provisions in this section are in addition to the referenced specification. <br /> 1.5 SUBMITTALS <br /> A. No exception to the referenced specification is made. <br /> PART 2-- PRODUCTS <br /> 2.1 GRANULAR MATERIALS <br /> A. Granular Bedding and Granular Encasement—No exception to the referenced specification is made. <br /> B. Granular Backfill-No exception to the referenced specification is made. <br /> PART 3-- EXECUTION <br /> 3.1 EXCAVATION AND PREPARATION OF TRENCH <br /> A. Interference and Protection of Underground Structures <br /> 1. If an existing utility is shown on the plans and there is no bid item for removing and restoring,or <br /> working around the utility,the Contractor shall be required to remove and restore,or protect the <br /> utility. <br /> 2. The inverts of existing sewers(storm&sanitary),culverts,subdrains,etc.shall be protected during <br /> construction. The Contractor is responsible to inspect and clean, if necessary,all lines which have <br /> become compromised by the construction operations. <br /> B. Excavation Limits and Requirements <br /> 1. The trench for all flexible pipe shall be undercut 6.0-inches below the pipe barrel to permit the <br /> installation of granular bedding or foundation material. <br /> 2. The trench for all rigid pipe shall be undercut three-inches below the pipe barrel,or as shown in the <br /> bedding detail,to permit the installation of granular bedding or foundation material. <br /> 3. The Contractor shall install and operate a dewatering system to maintain all trenches free of water <br /> wherever necessary. The Contractor shall make his own subsurface investigations and determine what <br /> dewatering methods to utilize to prevent such damage. <br /> 4. The Contractor shall be responsible for any damage to adjacent structures or buildings caused by the <br /> dewatering operations <br /> 5. Use of granular foundation material in lieu of performing dewatering is permitted. <br /> 6. All suitable excess excavated material shall remain the property of the Owner and shall be loaded, <br /> hauled, placed and compacted at a site chosen by the Owner within 2 miles of the site. All unsuitable <br /> excess excavated material,with the exception of topsoil shall become the property of the Contractor <br /> and shall be removed from the site and disposed of at a site secured by the Contractor. <br /> 3.2 INSTALLATION OF PIPE AND FITTINGS <br /> A. When connection to an existing conduit is required at an existing or proposed manhole,the Contractor shall <br /> expose and verify the elevation of the existing conduit prior to laying any pipe toward,or away from,the <br /> connection point. If the elevation of the existing conduit does not match the elevation shown on the plans, <br /> the Contractor shall notify the Engineer,at which time the Engineer may adjust the proposed grades. <br /> B. Sewer Pipe at Structures <br /> 1. The pipe end(s)shall be extended inside the structure a maximum of 3.0-inches unless approved <br /> otherwise by the Engineer or shown on the plans. <br /> C. Connection and Assembly of Joints <br /> 1.
