THE CHANGES IN ZONING AND LAND USE DESIGNATION PROMOTE COMPATIBLE <br />ZONING AND LAND USE OF THE REMNANT PARCELS CREATED BY THE CITY'S <br />RIGHT OF WAY ACQUISITION WITH ADJACENT PARCELS. <br /> <br />COMMISSIONER PEDERSON SECONDED THE MOTION. THE MOTION CARRIED 6-0. <br /> <br />6.1. Discuss Workshop Schedule <br /> <br />Michele McPherson reviewed the proposed 2000 Workshop Schedule. She noted <br />that the Rolling Hills cluster development will be added to the April workshop, <br />and, Hillside 8th Addition may be discussed at the May workshop. Chair Mesich <br />suggested that the Planning Commissioners attending the National Conference <br />could provide their report at the May workshop, also. <br /> <br />Commissioner Baker expressed his concern that the City ensure continuity in <br />commercial development standards. <br /> <br />Ms. McPherson stated that the Commission will have an opportunity to look at <br />development standards as part of the zoning ordinance update process. She <br />explained that through the Comp Plan update and re-codification, they will be <br />looking at other ordinances to establish specific tools for implementing design <br />standards. <br /> <br />Commissioner Chambers expressed his interest in being involved in design <br />standards. <br /> <br />Discussion followed regarding the re-codification process timeline. Ms. <br />McPherson explained that staff will be meeting with the City's consultant in May <br />and they will not likely see a first draft until July. <br /> <br />Ms. McPherson explained that the City has the ability for more stringent standards <br />through the conditional use process. <br /> <br />Commissioner Baker stated that he personally would like to keep the small town <br />"feel" in Elk River. <br /> <br />Ms. McPherson stated that implementation of the zoning ordinance is the key to <br />design standards; therefore, the City needs to make it clear in the ordinance <br />what it expects of developers. <br /> <br />Commissioner Baker felt that Maple Grove is a good example of what can be <br />done with consistent design standards in commercial development. <br /> <br />6.2. Update on 3/20/00 City Council Meetina <br /> <br />Michele McPherson provided an update on the March 20, 2000, City Council <br />meeting. <br /> <br />7. Adjournment <br />
