Recreation Manager's Report <br /> <br />Director of Parks and Recreation, Bill Maertz presented to the Commission a memo from <br />Recreation Manager, Michele Bergh stating there were 239 hours of facility use for the <br />month of December. <br /> <br />Mr. Maertz stated that the Handke ice rinks are reserved every day for hockey practices. <br /> <br />Mr. Maertz shared that the Wellness Committee will be completing their planning for 2005. <br />Topics for these events include Relay for Life, Red Cross Blood Drive, Healthy Lving <br />Challenge and more. <br /> <br />7. Director's Report - Bill Maertz <br /> <br />Director of Parks and Recreation, Bill Maertz shared with the Commission that as requested <br />in the December meeting, we are going to schedule a workshop session on the Natural <br />Resources Inventory and staff was looking for some direction. <br /> <br />Mr. Maertz also stated that the lights for the Handke Stadium that were approved in the <br />2005 budget, were put up immediately and has increased skating dramatically. <br /> <br />Mr. Maertz share that oak wilt abatement at Woodland Trails and Windsor Park has begun <br />and that over 100 trees have been removed. Crews are currently working on the 200 trees at <br />Windsor Park, and have received a burning permit to bum small brush on site. <br /> <br />Mr. Maertz stated that Lions Park has been adopted by a High School group. They will be <br />working to pick up, clean up and possibly raising funds for improvements. <br /> <br />Mr. Maertz shared that the 2005 Capital Improvements Budget that was approved in the <br />December meeting. The first thing that went in was the lights at Handke. <br /> <br />Chair Peterson arrives. <br /> <br />8.1. Community Events: Cabin Fever Update <br /> <br />Director of Parks and Recreation, Bill Maertz shared with the Commission that the 3rd <br />Annual Cabin Fever Day has 15 businesses that have committed so far and 19 home based <br />businesses participating at Lions Park Center. The addition of having a place for home <br />based businesses to participate is new this year. The participating businesses also are <br />offering free services or products for people to learn about their businesses. It is a good way <br />for people to get out and see what kind of businesses the city has to offer. <br /> <br />8.2. Land Use Cases - None <br /> <br />8.3. <br /> <br />Policy Issues <br />
