<br />. <br /> <br />. <br /> <br />. <br /> <br />Park & Recreation Commission Minutes <br />September 8, 2004 <br /> <br />Page 2 <br /> <br />6. <br /> <br />Recreation Manager's Report - Michele Bergh <br /> <br />Recreation Manager, Michele Bergh shared with the Commission that internet registration is <br />going well. <br /> <br />Ms. Bergh also shared that the office is preparing the Program Guide for November- <br />December. <br /> <br />Ms. Bergh also stated that they reserved a total of 929 hours of use for city facilities. <br /> <br />7. Director's Report - Bill Maertz <br /> <br />Director of Parks and Recreation, Bill Maertz stated that he has been working with Building <br />and Environmental Administrator, Steve Rohlf to place a sanitary grade drainage pipe in the <br />Ditch 31. Mr. Maertz asked the Commission if they were interested in using the berm that <br />was created when the ditch was cleared to cover the pipe when it is finished or to bring in fill <br />from somewhere else. <br /> <br />The Commission directed Mr. Maertz to use the berm to cover the pipe and to manage the <br />project to minimize impact to the park. <br /> <br />Mr. Maertz shared that the department is working on the Highlands West drainage problem <br />by removing curbs and putting in gutters. Mr. Maertz also shared that they will seal coat and <br />line the basketball court. <br /> <br />Mr. Maertz shared with the Commission a drawing of a concept sign for Woodlands Trails. <br />~mmissioner Niziolek requested that a tree be incorporated into the background of the <br />Sign. <br /> <br />Mr. Maertz stated that work has begun on clearing the Biathlon Course of all the old lumber, <br />scrap wood and old fish house. <br /> <br />Mr. Maertz also shared that they will be placing gates up at Top of the W orId Park to stop <br />mountain bikes and vehicles. <br /> <br />Mr. Maertz shared with the Commission that the School District and City have begun talks <br />about possible collaboration on a new Field House that the School District is proposing to <br />build at the Elk River Senior High. <br /> <br />Mr. Maertz shared that he has received several complaints from parents with young children <br />about the skate park and the skater's behavior. Mr. Maertz would like to create a family <br />night with parents and staff at the skate park. Mr. Maertz stated that they would also be <br />working on getting a new path that leads to the skate park so that skater's will not have to go <br />through the shelter to get to the park. <br /> <br />8A. <br /> <br />Community Events: 3rd Annual Family Fright Night <br /> <br />Director of Parks and Recreation, Bill Maertz shared with the Commission that the 3rd <br />Annual Family Fright Night will be held on October 30, 2004 at Woodlands Trails. Mr. <br />Maertz also shared that the event is pre-registration only without any onsite registrations <br />
