He also stated that the
department has begun working on prepping the winter equipment. Mr. Bye also stated that
the department has been working on prepping the outdoor skating areas for the winter
season and was looking for feedback about the rinks and if they should place the hockey
boards at both Handke Stadium and Lions Park. He stated that with the department short
several people, it would be difficult to keep the boards free from snow. Staff would prefer
not to install the boards this year.

The Commission discussed having two sets of hockey boards, a set at Handke Stadium and
Lions Park. The commission also stated they would like to have rink atten.dance at both.
places and that the attendants hired would help with the snow removal from the rinks and
the hockey boards. Commissioner Anderson asked Mr. Bye and Mr. Hals if it would be
possible to flood a larger area at Handke Stadium. Mr. Hals stated that they are able to flood
a larger area like they did last year and add a barrier with snow so that the sleds don't end up
going onto the rinks when sliding down the hill.

Commissioner Anderson stated that it was important for the City to fund the warming
house attendants, especially in light of the community effort and support of the Handke
restoration project.

MOTION BY COMMISSIONER ANDERSON, SECONDED BY
COMMISSIONER KUESTER TO REQUEST FROM CITY COUNCIL
FUNDING TO HAVE HOCKEY BOARDS AND RINK ATTENDANTS BOTH
AT LIONS PARK CENTER AND HANDKE STADIUM AND TO MAXIMIZE
THE RINK AT THE STADIUM.
