Park Development Progress Report <br /> <br />Park Foreman Teny Bye stated that the poles and fence for the batting cages are up at YAC. <br />Youth Baseball has the nets and will be installing them when they have time. The batting <br />cages will be available for use once this is completed. <br /> <br />Mr. Bye stated that the peat from the skatepark area of Lions Park has been hauled out. A <br />portion of the peat was added to the sliding hill and the remainder was brought to Public <br />Works for use later. <br /> <br />Mr. Bye indicated that park identification signs are being made and installed as they are <br />finished. <br /> <br />8. <br /> <br />City Recreation Update <br /> <br />e <br /> <br />Ms. McPherson stated that the Recreation summer brochure has been delivered and <br />Recreation has seen a great response. Recreation is beginning to work on planning for fall <br />and a few new programs will be offered. The fall brochure will go to print mid-July and will <br />be delivered the first Wednesday in August. Ms. McPherson noted that there was a nice <br />article in the Star News about the Recreation programs offered. <br /> <br />Safety Camp is scheduled for June 17 and 18, 2003. <br /> <br />9A.1. Community Events: Hillside Park Use Request <br /> <br />Ms. McPherson stated that the Twin Cities Unicycle Club has requested the use of Hillside <br />Park on August 3, 2003, from 11:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. for the mountain unicycling portion of <br />the North American Unicycling Championships. Approximately 150-200 people are <br />expected to take part in this event. <br /> <br />Greg Muellerleile was in attendance at the meeting. The Commission questioned if the group <br />will be charging admission. Mr Muellerleile stated that the participants are charged an entty <br />fee but the event is free to the public. Mr. Muellerleile also stated that the event would be <br />cancelled for the safety of the riders if the trails were too wet. <br /> <br />The Commission asked if this event would require the closure of the park to the public. Mr. <br />Muellerleile stated that the park would need to be closed. Commissioner Paige suggested that <br />BLAST be notified and that a sign be put up in the park stating the closure. Ms. McPherson <br />stated that she would notify BLAST of the park closure. <br /> <br />e <br /> <br />COMMISSIONER ANDERSON MOVED TO APPROVE THE USE OF <br />HILLSIDE PARK ON SUNDAY, AUGUST 3, 2003, FROM 11 A.M. TO 9 P.M. BY <br />THE TWIN CITIES UNICYCLE CLUB FOR THE MOUNTAIN BIKING <br />PORTION OF THE NORTH AMERICAN UNICYCLING CHAMPIONSHIPS. <br />THE GROUP WILL BE CHARGED A $3.00 PER PARTICIPANT FEE, NOT TO <br />EXCEED $500, AND A $500 DEPOSIT FOR THIS EVENT. COMMISSIONER <br />NYSTROM SECONDED THE MOTION. THE MOTION CARRIED 7-0. <br />
