<br />Park & Recreation Commission Minutes <br />August 8, 2001 <br />Page 3 <br /> <br />. <br /> <br />9.A.1. Andrew Fox - Update on Gagne Park Prairie and Kiosk Proiect. <br /> <br />Mr. Fox was not present for the August 8th meeting. He has not contacted the staff with <br />any additional information regarding his proposal. Commissioner Dave Anderson spoke <br />with him approximately one week ago and made Mr. Fox aware of the meeting. <br />9.A.2. BLAST. September Hillside Event <br /> <br />Bob Mueller representing BLAST, proposed a fall event similar to the one which took <br />place this past May. The event is scheduled to take place on Saturday, September 29. <br />BLAST would like to bring the community together that day to bring awareness to mountain <br />biking, as well as the interaction of the sport. He reported that the trails have become very <br />popular since their completion this summer, and due to the popularity of the trails, he has <br />worked with the Recreation staff regarding having a clinic at Hillside. This clinic, which he <br />suggested to be held on September 22nd, would be designed to teach the public about <br />mountain biking, what to do with regard to riding, how to take care of your bike, and how to <br />take care of the trails. <br /> <br />COMMISSIONER BRIGGS MOVED APPROVAL FOR THE SEPTEMBER 29TH <br />EVENT AT HILLSIDE CITY PARK PRESENTED BY THE BLAST TAKE <br />PLACE. COMMISSIONER PETERSON SECONDED THE MOTION. THE <br />MOTION CARRIED 6-0. <br /> <br />Commissioner Dave Anderson had two related question regarding Hillside City Park: <br /> <br />. <br /> <br />-Dirt brought to the site for trail repair. Phil Hals replied that there is Class V for the trails. <br />Mr. Mueller expressed concern that there are two piles of ground up asphalt along the trails <br />and asked if this could be moved at a later date and add sod, then adding picnic tables. Mr. <br />Mueller will coordinate with Phil Hals to accomplish this task. <br />-Possibility adding water to the site. Phil Hals responded by saying that a faucet could be <br />added for approximately the same cost as a well. The cost would be approximately $2,000. <br />Michelle McPherson and the city finance director will coordinate funding with Mr. Mueller <br />for the well. <br /> <br />9.A.3. Mike Niziolek. Elk River Invitational. Woodland Trails Park <br /> <br />Director of Planning Michele McPherson presented for Mike Niziolek. She reported that <br />Mr. Niziolek requests that Elk River High School would like to run the Elk <br />River Invitational at Woodland Trails Park on Thursday, September 20 from 3:30 p.m. to <br />sundown. This is an annual event and is anticipated that approximately 250 kids will <br />participate in this race from eight different schools. They will comply with the signage <br />requirements as the city has required in other years past. Mr. Niziolek is making <br />arrangements with the golf course with regard to the starting area. <br /> <br />COMMISSIONER DANA ANDERSON MOVED APPROVAL OF THE <br />USE OF WOODLAND TRAILS PARK FOR THIS ANNUAL INVITATIONAL <br />EVENT TO BE HELD ON THURSDAY, SEPTEMBER 20. COMMISSIONER <br />BRIGGS SECONDED THE MOTION. THE MOTION CARRIED 6-0. <br /> <br />9.AA. Prototypes for Park Signs <br /> <br />. <br /> <br />Phil Hals presented to the Commission with two prototypes of signs: Vinyl-covered <br />aluminum and anodized aluminum blank with reflective vinyl.
