Area Recreation Update - Michele Bergh <br /> <br />Michele Bergh was unable to attend the meeting; update notes were provided <br />to the Commissioners. <br /> <br />8. Park Development Pro9ress Report - TerN Bye <br /> <br />Deerfield 4th Park - Additional wood chips have been added to this site. The <br />woodchip surface has been proven to allow handicap accessibility. <br /> <br />Railroad Trail- The paving of the trail has been completed, along with <br />placement of topsoil, seeding, and erosion control fabric along the trail shoulders. <br /> <br />Orono Park - Grading has been completed for the hockey rink and skating rink <br />at the water tower site. The hockey boards and lights are in place and the <br />warming house trailers will be moved in next week. <br /> <br />Commissioner Dave Anderson expressed concern that the site be available in the <br />spring for softball players to park. Phil Hals stated that the site can be seeded <br />with rye grass in the spring and there should be no problem with parking vehicles. <br /> <br />Terry Bye reviewed the various sites where trees have been placed which were <br />removed from the Wal-Mart site. Phil Hals noted that if any good trees which are <br />scheduled for removal are still left in the spring, they will try to relocate as many as <br />possible. <br /> <br />Lions Park - Terry Bye provided a photo of the ballfield construction at Lions Park <br />near the bandshell. <br /> <br />9.A.1. Leukemia Benefit Race <br /> <br />Tom Gilgenbach reviewed the race layout for the Leukemia Benefit Race <br />scheduled for Saturday, May 13, 2000, starting at 7:30 a.m. He noted that the <br />Lions Club has now taken over sponsorship of the race. Mr. Gilgenbach asked for <br />the city's assistance in providing cones to mark the course in Woodland Trails. Mr. <br />Gilgenbach stated that 440 runners were registered in 1999, and plans to limit the <br />race to 600 entries in 2000. <br /> <br />COMMISSIONER WESTRUM MOVED TO SUPPORT THE LEUKEMIA BENEFIT FOOT RACE <br />SCHEDULED FOR MAY 13,2000, BEGINNING AT 7:30 A.M., AND TO RECOMMEND <br />
