COMMISSIONER WESTRUM <br />SECONDED THE MOTION. THE MOTION CARRIED 5-0. <br /> <br />5b. <br /> <br />Consider Purchase of Land for Park/Public Purposes <br /> <br />e <br /> <br />Steve Wensman reviewed the City Planner, Steve Ach's, memo to the Park & <br />Recreation Commission regarding whether or not the Commission would be <br />interested in a 5 acre parcel of property located at County Road 1 and Upland <br />Avenue. The property owner has asked if the City would be interested in <br />purchasing the property for park/public purposes. <br /> <br />It was the consensus of the Commissioners that use of the subject property for <br />park purposes would not be consistent with the Comprehensive Park Plan. <br />However, the possibility of using the site for parking as a trail head for the <br />Woodland Trails system was discussed, if the land was available at a minimal cost <br />or donated. <br /> <br />4. Open Mike <br /> <br />No one appeared for this item. <br /> <br />6.a. BMX Update <br /> <br />Margo Foster, 19504 Tyler Street, and John Thompson, 15383 County Road No. 30, <br />were present to discuss the possibility of locating a BMX bicycle track in Elk River. <br />Ms. Foster and Mr. Thompson indicated the Youth Initiatives Task Force has shown <br />interest in pursuing a project of this nature. Ms. Foster indicated the packet from <br />the American Bicycle Association which was distributed to the Commissioners <br />contains information regarding obtaining land, track construction, insurance <br />liability, sanctioning by the American Bicycle Association, etc. <br /> <br />e <br /> <br />The Commissioners indicated their willingness to hear a proposal at a future date. <br />
