<br />Park & Recreation Minutes <br />February 18, 1998 <br />Page 3 <br /> <br />e <br /> <br />undeveloped parks will also be added to the March 11 th Park & Recreation <br />Commission agenda. <br /> <br /> <br />Jeff Asfahl. Community Recreation Director, reviewed the following issues as <br />outlined in his memo to the Park & Recreation Commission dated February 18, <br />1998: <br /> <br />1. Miahtv Kids Grant Application - City of Elk River was awarded a $2,500.00 <br />grant which requires a $1,250.00 cash match from the City. Funds will likely be <br />used to pave the proposed skatepark site. <br /> <br />2. Former Prairie House Restaurant Site - A conditional use permit for the site will <br />be reviewed by the Planning Commission at their February 24, 1998 meeting. <br />Jeff indicated the other tenant proposed to occupy the building has withdrawn <br />their offer and he is unsure whether or not they will continue to pursue the site. <br /> <br />3. BMX Site - Jeff distributed information regarding BMX Bike racing and track <br />site information. Margo Foster and Jon Thompson will attend the March Park & <br />Recreation Commission to discuss possible development of a BMX site in Elk <br />River. <br /> <br />e <br /> <br />4. MN State Leaislature - 1998 Bondina Bill for Youth Initiatives - Jeff indicated the <br />Youth Initiatives bill is still alive and he will update the Commission on its future <br />status. <br /> <br />5. Short term solutions for a concession buildina at the Youth Athletic Complex- <br />Jeff will investigate using a surplus travel trailer for a concession stand. He also <br />spoke with Greg Karnis who may have a concession trailer available. <br /> <br /> <br />a. Sians - Phil Hals, Streets/Parks Superintendent. provided a sample of a <br />sign made on his department's new sign machine. The Commissioners <br />discussed what type of trail markers to use in Woodland Trails. <br /> <br />c. Ski Trail Groomina - Dave Anderson distributed and reviewed a handout <br />regarding 1997-1998 cross country ski trail grooming issues. <br /> <br /> <br />Phil distributed information regarding the park dedication fund balance and <br />recent expenditures. He will provide projections for 1998 revenues and <br />expenditures at the March 11 th Park & Recreation Commission meeting. <br /> <br /> <br /> <br />e <br /> <br />Phil noted ground was broke at Lions' Park for the Boys' and Girls' Club. The <br />12,000 square foot building will be located in the southeast corner of the <br />property. <br />
