THE MOTION CARRIED 7-0. <br /> <br />Discussion-. Park ofthe Month <br /> <br />9. <br /> <br />Phil Hats presented a proposal for the Commissioners to become more actively <br />involved in the design of undeveloped parks. Phil explained staff would work with <br />the planning intern to generate a scale drawing for each of the parks, and the <br />Commissioners could use "cut outs" of various equipment and courts such as <br />volleyball and basketball courts, playground equipment. etc. to visualize what <br />amenities would fit on a particular park site. <br /> <br />Chair Anderson will provide a list of parks, and Commissioner Dave Anderson will <br />come up list of amenities and priorities for park development for the February <br />Park & Recreation meeting. <br /> <br />10. Staff Updates <br /> <br />a. Parker Elementary Reauest <br /> <br />Phil Hals presented a request from the Parker Elementary Parent-Teacher <br />Organization for assistance in funding new playground equipment. Estimated <br />project cost is $30,000 and $20,000 has already been raised. <br /> <br />e <br /> <br />COMMISSIONER OLSON MOVED TO RECOMMEND THE CITY CONTRIBUTE TO THE <br />COST OF THE PLAYGROUND EQUIPMENT FOR THE LINCOLN/PARKER ELEMENTARY <br />SCHOOL CAMPUS AT A COST NOT TO EXCEED $3,000, IN CONSIDERATION OF THE <br />FACT THE PLAYGROUND IS USED BY THE COMMUNITY AS A NEIGHBORHOOD PARK <br />SITE. COMMISSIONER KUESTER SECONDED THE MOTION. THE MOTION CARRIED 7-1. <br />COMMISSIONER ANDERSON OPPOSED. <br /> <br />b. Applications for Grants! Aid <br /> <br />Phil Hals asked the Commissioners for comments regarding the grant applications <br />for 1998. Phil indicated he plans to resubmit the request for $98,000 to construct <br />12,000 feet of bike trails in Woodland Park, plus several "spur" trails. Also, a <br />request will be submitted for funding a trail connection from Co. Road 33 to Oak <br />Knoll and a cross connection to Jackson. <br /> <br />c. Commissioner Anderson - Ski Race <br /> <br />Commissioner Anderson noted the proposed ski race was canceled due to lack <br />of snow. Approximately 70 people registered for the event and a significant <br />number of individuals showed up to register the day of the event. He indicated <br />they would try to schedule a race again next year. <br /> <br />9.2. <br /> <br />Electionof1998 Park ahd. Recreation Commission . Chair and Vice Chair <br /> <br />e <br /> <br />COMMISSIONER KUESTER MOVED TO APPOINT DANA ANDERSON AS CHAIR OF THE <br />PARK AND RECREATION COMMISSION FOR 1998. COMMISSIONER OLSON <br />SECONDED THE MOTION. THE MOTION CARRIED 7-0-1. CHAIR ANDERSON <br />ABSTAINED. <br />
