Elk River Public Library Board Page 4
January 23,2018
■ In the next few months, GRRL will be distributing`binge boxes' of DVD. •
These are boxes of donated DVD's put together by genre. For example, one
binge box is the entire collection of the Indiana Jones movies combined with
the Lara Croft Tomb Raider movie.
5.7 Library Services Coordinator Report
Robbie highlighted the following from her report:
• On the first Tuesday and Thursday of the new library hours, staff
counted 25-30 patrons using library between 10 am and 12 pm. Robbie
will provide more official stats at the March meeting. Patron feedback
has been positive with most patrons appreciating that the library is
opened at the same time every day now.
• Laura from the Library is on the newly formed`social media'team. They
are conducting a pilot project at a few branches.
• The library had good participation in their STEM class presented by the
Sherburne County 4-H;this is why funds from the Locally Growin
fundraiser will be focused on STEM.
• The Julie Kramer author visit didn't have great attendance—probably
because of a winter storm that evening. The people who attended gave
great feedback. Robbie will have other authors visit throughout the year.
• Thanks to a generous donation from an anonymous donor, the library
was able to give about 12 boxes of young adult books to Ivan Sands so 4110
they can start their own library. Robbie said they have made a good
connection with Ivan Sands and she will work to maintain that
connection with them,as well as with Spectrum High School.
• The library will be starting a Teen Book Club starting in January, basing it
on the model Robbie witnessed in St. Paul. The book club will be run by
the teen members and library staff will only act as overseers. This has
been a very successful model in St. Paul so Robbie hopes it will be
equally successful here.
5.8 GRRL Trustee Report
• Mary was reappointed to the GRRL Board.
• The fundraising committee raised 65,000; their goal was 85,000.
• Mary is on the newly formed Safety and Security Committee formed to
help keep libraries and staff safe; for example,in some of the smaller
communities the recommendation is to make sure police drive by the
library branches.
6. Adjournment
There being no further business, Chair Eberley adjourned the meeting of the Elk River
Public library Board at 7:10 pm. The tour of the facility will follow. •
r a r E R E 1 11
NATUR
