Elk River Public Library Board Page 3
January 23,2018
410
LEED certification. Mary E. asked to have Gary attend the March meeting
providing examples/samples/prices of new hand dryers. The Board would like
cost estimates to have hand dryers relocated next to the sinks. Robbie suggested
Gary consult with the city's Environmental Tech, Amanda Bednar, on the
Boards requests. Mary E. asked if Gary could also provide estimated costs to
include urinals in some/all of the bathrooms and doesn't know if it would be a
LEED issue. Laura will contact Gary with their requests and ask him to attend
the March meeting.
5.4 Library Zones Report
• The Board asked for an update on the windmill at the March meeting;
• The board asked for a status on the kiosk that is to be installed at the front
entrance at the March meeting;
• Mick noted the wood benches throughout the grounds need to be sanded
and refinished once it warms up;
• The Friends of the Library fixed the DVD slippage issue by purchasing
tension rods to keep the DVD's sitting upright and to the front of the book
shelf. Robbie noted that the Friends group also replaced a clock that wasn't
working. Mary E. would like a letter to be sent to the Friends thanking them
for their attention to the needs of the library. Laura will draft a letter for
Mary to review that will go to Mick to sign, as she is the new Chair.
5.5 City Council Report
• Councilman Ovall stated there are no new council actions or library issues at
this time;the Ice Arena project has been their focus recently and funding is
the latest of their discussions.
5.6 Patron Services Supervisors Report
Brandi highlighted the following from her report:
• The revamped Locally Growin Fundraiser (used to be called High 5) now has
100% of the proceeds and goals staying with the local library. Elk River's
goal is to raise $1,000 and use that money towards STEM (Science,
Technology, Engineering and Math) education.
• Axis 360 is one of two platforms being added to the digital collection. Axis
360 is similar to Overdrive, but is less expensive. The other platform is MN
Writes MN Reads which is headed up ty the Metropolitan Library Service
Agency as a way for local authors to self-publish and share their eBooks.
There will be a writers contest in April or May for MN Writes MN Reads.
• New for 2018 the MN Library Association Legislative Committee is working
on a virtual component to make the important legislative work accessible to
library supporters.
