[IBC Table 1609.3.1, <br />Fig. 1609B] <br /> <br /> Applications. Buildings, structures and parts thereof shall be designed to withstand the <br />minimum wind loads prescribed herein. Decreases in wind loads shall not be made for <br />the effect of shielding by other structures. [IBC 1609.1] <br /> Determination of Wind loads. Wind loads on every building or structure shall be <br />determined in accordance with Chapters 26 to 30 of ASCE 7 or provisions of the alternate <br />all-heights method in Section 1609.6. The type of opening protection required, the <br />ultimate design wind speed, Vult, and the exposure category for a site is permitted to be <br />determined in accordance with Section 1609 or ASCE 7. Wind shall be assumed to come <br />from any horizontal direction and wind pressures shall be assumed to act normal to the <br />surface considered. [IBC 1609.1.1] <br /> Wind Speed. The ultimate design wind speed, Vult, in mph, for the determination of the <br />wind loads shall be determined by Figures 1609A, 1609B and 1609C. The ultimate <br />design wind speed, Vult, for use in the design of Risk Category III and IV buildings and <br />structures shall be obtained from Figure 1609B. [IBC 1609.3] <br /> <br /> <br />General Building Design Comments: <br /> <br />1. Type of Construction. <br />Please note that the Authority Having Jurisdiction (AHJ) for inspections (City of Elk River) will <br />verify the Type of construction (V-A) classification as indicated in the Code Summary. Any <br />discrepancies in the type of construction noted by the AHJ Inspector will require an upgrade to <br />the required standard. Please address. <br /> <br />2. Attic Draftstopping. <br /> Roof Plan, 2/A2.1. <br />Attic draftstopping is not required in a fully sprinklered building (NFPA 13 system). See <br />Submittals Comment #9 above. Please address. <br /> <br /> Groups R-1 and R-2. Draftstopping is not required in buildings equipped throughout <br />with an automatic sprinkler system in accordance with Section 903.3.1.1. [IBC 718.4.2, <br />Exception #2] <br /> <br />3. Wall Sill Plates. <br /> Detail, 2/A4.0. <br />Sill plates are required to be preservative-treated lumber if located less than 8 inches above <br />adjacent grade. Please address. <br />
