Units required to be Type A units are permitted to be designed and constructed <br />as Accessible units. Units required to be Type B units are permitted to be designed and <br />constructed as Accessible units or as Type A units. [1341.1107.2] <br /> Type A Units. In Group R-2 occupancies containing more than seven dwelling units or <br />sleeping units, at least 2 percent but not less than one of the units shall be a Type A unit. <br />All Group R-2 units within a contiguous parcel of land development, irrespective of lot <br />lines and public rights-of-way within the development, shall be considered to determine <br />the total number of units and the required number of Type A units. Type A units shall be <br />dispersed among the various classes of units. Where three or more Type A units are <br />required, at least one Type A unit shall be provided with an accessible roll-in shower. <br />[MR 1341.1107.6.2.1.1] <br /> Type B Units. Where there are four or more dwelling units or sleeping units intended to <br />be occupied as a residence in a single structure, every dwelling unit and sleeping unit <br />intended to be occupied as a residence shall be a Type B unit. In determining means of egress requirements, the number of <br />occupants for whom means of egress facilities shall be provided shall be determined in <br />accordance with this section. [IBC 1004.1] <br /> Areas Without Fixed Seating. The number of occupants shall be computed at the rate <br />of one occupant per unit of area as prescribed in Table 1004.1.2. For areas without fixed <br />seating, the occupant load shall not be less than that number determined by dividing the <br />floor area under consideration by the occupant load factor assigned to the function of the <br />space as set forth in Table 1004.1.2. Where an intended function is not listed in Table <br />1004.1.2, the building official shall establish a function based on a listed function that <br />most nearly resembles the intended function. Egress Width. <br /> Code Plans. <br />Please indicate the exit occupant load at each exit, with required/provided egress widths on the <br />Code Plans. <br /> <br /> Other Egress Components. The capacity, in inches, of means of egress components <br />other than stairways shall be calculated by multiplying the occupant load served by such <br />component by a means of egress capacity factor of 0.2 inch per occupant. [IBC 1005.3.2] <br /> Stairways. The capacity, in inches, of means of egress stairways shall be calculated by <br />multiplying the occupant load served by such stairway by a means of egress capacity <br />factor of 0.3 inch per occupant. Where stairways serve more than one story, only the <br />occupant load of each story considered individually shall be used in calculating the <br />required capacity of the stairways serving that story.
