1
From:Berg, Jessica M (DOC) <jessica.berg@state.mn.us>
Sent:Wednesday, April 25, 2018 8:05 AM
To:Sevcik, Tim
Subject:Answers to your questions
Can these models be installed along the Mississippi River and withstand the currents to include spring
flooding from snow melt?
Yes, you can install a fishing pier on the Mississippi River. You will likely need additional
anchor pipes. Understanding the depth of the water will be vitally important. You will want
to consult with DNR.

Do these piers adjust themselves to water elevation changes as a result of seasonal conditions and/or flooding
events; or do they require manual adjustments to be made?
Yes, the pier will rise and fall along its anchor pipes.
Is there a specific model that would be recommended for use on the Mississippi River?
We do not have a specific recommendation for the River. The Minnesota DNR may have
specific requirements.
What is the ability for these piers to withstand ice flows and other debris such as logs that may be carried into
the pier structure?
Do you have the ability to create a diversion technique for the debris? If not, do you have
location options for the pier?
Can these piers be installed for year-round use on a river system such as the Mississippi?
We recommend that pier be moved and/or removed for Winter conditions
If year round use on the Mississippi is not recommended or feasible, how portable are these piers; can they be
disassembled and removed? What is the approximate weight of individual components that would have to
be lifted? What is an approximate amount of time to disassemble and remove this structure as well as to
reinstall?
Yes, the piers can be disassembled and removed. Time to disassemble, remove, and
reinstall will dependent on the size of the crew involved. I would plan on a couple of
days. Initial install may take longer as you install the handrail for the first time.
What is the feasibility of floating the structure from its seasonal location to a boat landing approximately 1
mile downstream of the river to remove at that location as well as to transport it back upstream in the spring
to reinstall? Do you know of anyone that has tried this method and what type of equipment may be
required?
You can float the pier downstream to a boat landing. Getting it back upstream may prove to
be more challenging. Yes, The City of White Bear Lake used a boat to pull their municipal
marina from the delivery location across the lake to final installation location.
How are these structures secured to the shoreline/river bottom? Once in place, how easy is it to move the
structure and what type of equipment may be required?
Anchor pipes are used to secure the pier. Anchor pipes would need to be removed to move
it. You may want to consider purchasing the spud pole puller to assist.
What is an approximate cost for each of the attached structures with all necessary materials to secure as well
as making them ADA compliant (handrails, ramps, etc.?
The pricing for our fishing piers is shown on the attached
link. http://www.minncor.com/outdoor‐recreational‐piers‐and‐docks‐fishing‐piers. 2 of the 3
pictures that you had attached are not products we make.
