Page 3

Elk River City Council Minutes
October 26.1987

e

8. Presentation From Mike Mulrooney

Mike Mulrooney was not present.

The City Council discussed the status of the hiring of a Community
Development Coordinator because it was one of the items which was to be
discussed with Mike Mulrooney. Discussion was held on the two applicants
which were interviewed by the City Council. Jeff Gongoll and Steve
Kaukola. The Council determined that in all fairness to both applicants
and because of the importance of the position being created in the City.
the position should be readvertised. The Council indicated they were not
comfortable making a decision based on the interviews of only two
applicants. The Council discussed the proposed salary for the position.
It was the consensus that the salary being offered was too low. and that
in order to attract an experienced professional in the field of Economic
Development. a higher salary should be offered. It was the consensus of
the Council to possibly offer as high as $35.000 for the position.
however. it was the Council's desire to discuss this with the City
Administrator prior to making a final decision on the salary. The Council
also discussed the title of the position. It was the consensus of the
Council to change the title to Economic Development Coordinator because
economic development was the major responsibility of the position and
because of the small amount of applicants received under the Community
Development Coordinator title.

e

The Council directed Staff to advertise state-wide for the position and to
also advertise in the League of Minnesota Cities Magazine.

9A. Business Expo

Councilmember Schuldt updated the Council on the Business Expo. He
indicated he is working on a Council booth and asked for volunteers to be
at the booth during the Business Expo.

10.
