She stated that the EIS process for <br />gravel mining in Elk River has been going on for over one year. <br /> <br />Mayor Duitsman opened the public hearing. <br /> <br />Steve Rohlf reviewed the City's transportation plan in relation to gravel mining. <br /> <br />John Kuester. 19834 York Avenue, questioned the specifics regarding reclamation <br />of the gravel mines. <br /> <br />Noel PaukeTt. 12283 Ridaewood Drive, questioned the timeframe of the mining <br />operations. Steve Rohlf answered that the timeframe of gravel mining in Elk River <br />is about 50-75 years. <br /> <br />A citizen residina at 40263 Ridaewood Drive questioned the buffering between <br />the gravel mines and the residential homes. <br /> <br />Steve ShuTts, 12576 Ridaewood Drive, questioned why the miners were clearing <br />the land at this time. He indicated that this will affect the landowners in the <br />future in regards to buffering. <br /> <br />- <br /> <br />Clete Lipetzkv. 19796 York Street, displayed a 1993 document showing natural <br />commodities and rare species in Sherburne County. The document was from the <br />Department of Natural Resources. Mr. Lipetzky stated some of the land proposed <br />to be mined is considered valuable land with natural vegetation. He requested <br />that this land be taken into account during the development of the gravel mines. <br /> <br />Bruce Pearson. 19874 Watson Circle, spoke about the overall gravel mining in Elk <br />River. He indicated his concern regarding the quality of life and standard of living <br />declining due to gravel mining in Elk River. He stated that gravel mining will <br />create an eyesore and will cause the City to become aesthetically bankrupt. He <br />requested the Council to preserve the charm the City already possesses. <br /> <br />Sarah SaWYer. 12481 Ridaewood Drive, indicated her concern regarding the <br />affects gravel mining will have on wild life. <br /> <br />A citizen residina at 12322 Ridaewood Drive, questioned when the financial <br />impact data would be available. <br /> <br />Peter Beck, the City Attorney, stated that the comment period on this issue will be <br />open until April 4, 1994. <br /> <br />Stan Chase. 12545 Ridaewood Drive, commented on the mining taking place <br />along Proctor A venue and the dangerous conditions created in that area from <br />the mining operations. <br /> <br />- <br /> <br />Mayor Duitsman closed the public hearing. He reiterated that the comment <br />periOd would be open until April 4 and requested citizens with concerns to <br />contact City Hall by phone or letter. <br />
