OVERALL TAKEAWAYS
Overall Takeaways
Through our team's qualitative and quantitative research, we had several key takeaways,
and our findings from both our in-depth interviews and survey were consistent in most cases.
First, after talking with the Energy City Commission, we found that nearly all of the Energy City
Commission members work in the energy industry, but some lack the personal passion or
enthusiasm for Energy City. Additionally, despite the 10-year Action Plan, we uncovered that
some of the Energy City Commission members are still uncertain about Energy City's focus, the
Energy City Commission's role, especially in relationship to the City of Elk River and the City
Council, and their personal Energy City Commission roles.
Second, in terms of the City of Elk River residents' awareness of Energy City, we did have
mixed findings between our qualitative and quantitative research. We found that 35 percent of
our in-depth interview respondents were familiar with Energy City and 88 percent of our survey
respondents were familiar with Energy City. In this sense, we believe that our quantitative
findings are higher due to bias, and if we had distributed our survey through multiple channels,
besides the Energy City Facebook page, our cross findings would be more similar.
At the same time, nearly all of City of Elk River residents thought that energy efficiency
and sustainability are important. However, few City of Elk River residents knew anything about
Energy City, but they are interested in learning, especially about how it would affect them and
save them money.
Third, in terms of receiving local news and promoting Energy City, the City of Elk River
residents believe that the City of Elk River is doing a good job communicating to people.
