.

.

.

2000 Budget
August 26, 1999
Pag-e 5

. The City Council budget includes contributions of $3,000 to the
Historical Society and $3,000 to the Rivers of Hope. (These items have
never made it into a departmental budget, and if approved by the
council have come out of the contingency fund.)
. Interest revenue could be slightly increased (an additional $10,000)

All of the key department heads associated with the general fund budget are
scheduled to be attendance at the 8/30 worksession (except the Fire Chiefwho is out
of town). At this meeting, staff plans to provide verbal comments on each
departmental budget and to answer City Council questions. Staff will be looking for
council feedback on additional changes and how to proceed with the preparation of
the 2000 budget.

By September 15, 1999, the city needs to certify to the county its proposed
maximum tax level for 2000. I think that we will need to have a follow-up special
budget meeting, and a date should be set up long enough after the 8/30 meeting so
that staff can respond to council direction and yet early enough before the 9/15
deadline so that we can get the council adopted figures put in order for certification
to the County Auditor. The timing is somewhat tricky, as we already have a 9/7
special meeting set up with the Utilities Commission, and some staff time will be
required to prepare for this special meeting.
