HOCKEY ► AGE 4+ 0 <br />Our hockey curriculum is divided into two age brackets: Prep Jrs' (ages <br />4-6) and Prep Beginner/Advanced (age 7+). Both levels are designed to <br />teach the same fundamentals of hockey skating, but at different paces. <br />There are four badge levels in which skaters learn how to be proficient <br />and agile on the ice. Proper skating techniques for the game of hockey <br />are the focus; most elements are taught without a stick or puck. Class is <br />60 minutes and uses stations or small groups based on the number of <br />skaters and abilities, along with some free time. It is recommended that <br />all new skaters complete Snowplow Sam 2 or Basic 1 before registering <br />for hockey. Hockey registrants MUST be able to stand, march and <br />glide without help. Hockey helmet, shin guards and hockey gloves are <br />required (other equipment optional). <br />» Hockey 1: Designed for beginner skaters who want to play hockey <br />but have little skating ability, yet are able to stand, march and glide <br />on skates. Skills include basic hockey stance, fall/recovery, glides <br />and dips, forward swizzles/double c -cuts, T -pushes, snowplow stop, <br />half turns and proper stick holding. <br />» Hockey 2: Learn forward strides using V -pushes, one -foot push <br />and glides, forward c -cuts, backward hustle, swizzles/double c -cuts, <br />moving snowplow stops, and scooting or skateboard pushes on <br />circle. Beginning stick passing may be introduced. <br />» Hockey 3: A semi -advanced level in which the skater does lateral <br />crossovers, marches, forward and backward c -cuts on circle, <br />forward inside and outside edges on half circles alternating feet, <br />backward snowplow stops and hockey stops.
